I Have A New Podcast! Security In 5 Is Live!
After a year of hard planning and thinking it over I finally did it. I pulled the trigger, spent a few dollars and planned out the next iteration of my security passion. I created a podcast. A terrifying proposition but I felt that this was something I had to do.
Below you can listen to episode 1: The Introduction Episode that goes over the high level description of what the podcast will be. This post will give a little extra insight to it’s inception and creation. It all comes down to a point in one’s life where you have to make a choice on what door to walk through next. Two years ago I was put in that position and decided to take the door that puts in front of a wider audience for my career. Consulting, guiding, applying 20 years of experience to help a wide variety of people and businesses. I moved away of the ‘corporate path’ and proceeded with evangelizing security.
Over the years conversations grew on getting information out to a broader audience. Convention and user group speeches are a good avenue but not broad enough and it’s a little preaching to the choir. I felt a security awareness podcast had to be for everyone, covering not just important corporate and legal topics but bringing it down to an individual level and what it all means for a person. An idea was forming.
I looked at what I used for my professional growth in security and realized that most of what I consumed was short and to the point. As much as I tried to listen to other podcasts and videos that were an hour plus long, I just couldn’t. I know I could easily fill an hour on any security topic every day. But I just didn’t have the time to produce it and I didn’t think there were many that would regularly listen.
In the end I created what I call Security In 5. Security topic in five minutes (plus or minus a few from time to time). That way anyone could pick it up and listen to it in one sitting, regularly and bring it into a routine. Whether in their car, at their desk having their coffee catching up on email, on a lunch walk or whatever. Easy, short, understandable and to the point. That’s Security In 5.
This is a big step personally to do something like this but in the world we live in security should be in front of everyone. Increase awareness and you increase security. Cybercriminals hunt out and exploit the naive. The best way to combat this is to arm as many as we can with knowledge. That’s the intent of the podcast.
